Meet Jody Sevy

John J. “Jody” Sevy, CLU has 40 years in the employee benefits business; he started Solid Nine Solutions, LLC is 2016 to work directly with employers, brokers and consultants.  In previous roles he held management positions at AEGON/Transamerica for 16 years and Boston Mutual for 14.  

As founder of Solid Nine, Jody works to identify emerging trends and partner with established firms to design and promote best practice solutions with a focus on pharmacy and self-insured plans. 

He and his wife of 35 years (Kathy) have three children (Ian, Graham and Olivia) and Henry, a Goldendoodle.  Outside of work, Jody loves sports/fitness, especially soccer, cooking, yardwork, travel and reading.

Q: How much money can we save?

A lot. On average our PBA saved clients 20.1% on their health plan drug spend in 2024.

Q: What is a PBA (pharmacy benefit administrator)?

A PBA is a fully transparent, “cost-plus” alternative to a PBM that saves you money:

- Drugs are priced with zero margin

- 100% of rebates and coupons are returned to the health plan

- All administrative fees are clearly stated

Q: Do I have to change my formulary?

No. Changes to your formulary (the list of medications that the health plan covers) are not required in order for you to save money.

Q: Are generic and brand-name drugs available?

Yes. Generic drugs contain the same active ingredients and work the same as brand-name drugs but typically cost much less. The FDA requires generics to meet the same standards for safety, strength, and quality.

Q: Is prior authorization (PA) included?

Yes. Prior authorization means your doctor must get approval from the plan before a specific drug is covered. This helps ensure the medication is medically necessary and cost-effective.

Q: Can I use any pharmacy?

Yes. Most plans have a network of preferred pharmacies. Using one of these locations usually means lower costs. Out-of-network pharmacies may still fill your prescription, but you’ll likely pay more.

Q: Do you offer mail-order fulfillment?

Yes. Mail-order pharmacies let you receive 90-day supplies of maintenance medications (for chronic conditions) delivered to your home, often at a lower cost per dose.

Q: Are specialty medications available?

Yes. Specialty drugs are high-cost medications for complex or chronic conditions (like MS, cancer, or rheumatoid arthritis). We provide the special handling, storage, and monitoring that are typically required.

Q: Do you offer biosimilars?

Yes. We provide these less expensive alternative medicines when available, if the patient and their physician choose.

Q: Do you offer an international option?

Yes. We offer access to FDA tier-one approved international sources, if you choose to include that in your plan.
